In the past, the
industrial part of Merrickville was centred on the Rideau Canal.
During the winter, the locks are kept empty to
avoid ice damage.
When you enter Merrickville, you cross the Rideau Canal on a swing
bridge.
Some of the old buildings have new life when people have started
traditional businesses.
This old foundry building is the home of Village Metalsmiths.
As well, Carleton University School of Architecture has a presence in
this historic Building.
